The Value of Children Serving in Church

Part of being a good disciple of Jesus is serving with the Body of Christ in the local church in which God has assigned us.  As part of that local Body, our children are no exception!  Here are a few reasons why it is important for our children to learn to serve in the church.  These, of course, must be guided through and communicated by the parents so serving does not just become an obligation, but a desire and way of life.

  1. It teaches them give themselves to Jesus and what He values most in the Kingdom of God.
  2. It provides opportunities to be led by the Holy Spirit as they decide in what area to serve.
  3. It gives them opportunism to sow the seed of time, money, kindness, and God’s Word into others that they will later be multiplied into their own lives.
  4. It prepares them for life as an adult in a world of working with various people in a variety of situations.
  5. It helps them discover and develop their God-given talents and skills.
  6. It teaches them new things about the Word of God and other discipleship topics.
  7. It encourages responsibility, punctuality, and a good work ethic.
  8. It encourages teamwork as they work with others.
  9. It teaches selflessness as they give to others.
  10. It teaches submission to leadership.
  11. It helps them step out of their comfort zones.
  12. It teaches them to problem-solve.

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Galatians 6:10)

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)

“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38)
