Attributes of a Victor

victor

We would all like to be victors – overcomers in every area of life. The truth is, if we’ve received Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are victors! However, our lives and its imperfections can make us believe that we are not.  That is why we must believe in what we cannot see or feel – that our victory status is a present tense reality.  We aren’t going to be; we are!

Our redemption in Christ happened when Jesus died on the Cross.  When Jesus died and rose from the dead, it was as if our old man died and rose from the dead.  Our sins were washed away, and Jesus’ victory became our victory the moment we believed in Him.  Our salvation is a current fact, not something that will be done in the future.  We are – present tense – children of God!

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17) (emphasis added)

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57) (emphasis added)

When our situations and feelings seem to say something different than the victory God has given us, we need to walk by faith.  This means we should not believe what we see and feel, but believe what God says.

For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Once we understand that we have the victory and are victors, our actions should follow! If victory is ours regardless of what is going on around us, then our faith will put it into action through a life of victory speaking, living, and believing.

  1. Victors rejoice.

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! (Philippians 4:4)

  1. Victors live in a state of joy.

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials . . . (James 1:28-8)

  1. Victors walk by faith.

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. (I John 5:4)

  1. Victors follow orders.

But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Luke 11:28)

  1. Victors praise.

But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.  Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. (Acts 16:25-26)

  1. Victors speak victory.

Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” (Numbers 13:30)

  1. Victors live in peace.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)

  1. Victors shout.

And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: “Shout, for the Lord has given you the city!” (Joshua 6:16)

  1. Victors acts on authority.

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (Luke 10:19)

  1. Victors bring victory to others.

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

Let’s live like the victors God has made us to be!  And rather than simply keeping the benefits of victory to ourselves, let’s pass it on to a word that needs to know the King of Victory!
